Overview

Tired of scattered plans, group texts, and forgotten gear, I set out to design a better way for campers to coordinate trips. inTents blends research-driven design with real-world functionality. Bringing people together to plan, pack, and connect in one seamless experience. From primary research to hi-fi prototypes, this case study captures the journey of turning messy group planning into a smooth, shared adventure.

Overview collage of research highlights

Research & Discovery

I began with user interviews and competitive analysis. Key findings revealed that campers often juggled multiple platforms to plan, pack, and communicate; with one person usually stuck doing all the coordination. This not only caused frustration, but sometimes led to plans falling through entirely.

Limited Options

Most sites and apps cater to a single camper or coordinator. Having a social option would allow for group coordination.

Social

Most users value community and share across a variety of platforms. Adding social tools like chats and profiles will be essential.

Coordination

Most users stopped trying to book camping trips because of all the work it takes to go between websites and balance schedules.

Experience

Some users had little knowledge of camping and reserved to ask for help. Implementing a ‘Help’ page with user led information will be also essential.

Design Process

Initial sketches and wireframes helped shape functionality like trip creation, packing lists, and campsite search. I iterated with user feedback.

Final UI

The final design offers group management, socializing, and help search tools in an easy-to-use, mobile-first experience.

What I Learned

This project pushed me to think beyond screens; to design for real-world messiness. It taught me how to turn user feedback into clear, intuitive experiences without over complicating things.

Biggest Takeaway:
Users come in many varieties; and every concern, need, and goal matters when designing a meaningful product.
